Second Reported Note - First Offering in Twenty Years
Fitzgerald, GA - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 615 The Third National
Bank Ch. # (S)8966 PMG Very Fine 20.An excessively rare and wonderful new addition to the census of by far the most difficult to obtain of Fitzgerald's four issuing banks. This short lived institution was around for only eight years before the receiver arrived to close the doors forever in early 1916. Prior to this evening, just one note was reported from this short-lived charter - a $10 Date Back that made its sole public appearance in our 2004 FUN auction, and which has been ensconced in a major Georgia collection since that time. This great new discovery, therefore, becomes not only just second note to surface from this rare charter, but also represents a very rare type for this Southern state, as there are only about five dozen Red Seals reported for all Georgia banks combined. Fortunately, for collectors, this is a very attractive Red Seal with excellent color and solid paper for the grade. PMG has mentioned the lightening of some minor rust stains but any such stains are not at all distracting. As a bonus, this pleasing Red Seal sports low serial number 8. This is a great note for the Georgia specialist or anyone who appreciates rare Red Seals.
