Description

One of Two Reported

New York, NY - $5 Original Fr. 397a The Mechanics & Traders National Bank Ch. # 1624 PCGS Banknote Choice Fine 15.
A great New York City rarity, this offering comes from a bank that started as a state institution in 1830, became a national bank in 1865 and issued First Charter notes only before liquidating and returning to state status in 1884. This Original Series $5 is one of just two notes reported and the first to be publicly offered since 2013. Acquired by our consignor out of a 2003 auction, it is well circulated yet still attractive note with nice color and signatures with just a bit of corner damage.
