Description

Lyons, NY - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 613 The Gavitt National Bank Ch. # (E)7479 PMG Extremely Fine 40.
This lovely Red Seal is the only example of the type reported from this scarce private name Wayne County bank that went out in 1933. Tracing its provenance to Lot 939 (where it realized all of $100) in pioneer paper money dealer Bill Donlon's auction of his personal collection in May of 1971, this bright, boldly inked $10 bears the dark pen signatures of S.B. Gavitt and W.J. Gavitt. The bank had originally opened in 1904, but, during the Great Depression, elected to close and merge with its competitor, the Lyons National Bank, at which time S.B. Gavitt became the President of the newly-merged bank.
