Serial Number 1 Henrietta Brown Back- Finest of Two Known
Serial Number 1 Henrietta, TX - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 471 The
Farmers National Bank Ch. # 4068 PCGS Extremely Fine 40PPQ.This lovely Serial Number 1 note represents a true miracle of survival, as it comes from a bank in a tiny north Texas community which issued Brown Backs only before entering receivership in 1903. By 1915, a meager $505 was still outstanding. Just two notes are known from this bank and both are Serial Number 1 $5 Brown Backs, fortuitously saved for this generation's collectors by some unknown individual over a century ago. With the only other Henrietta issuer also a Brown Backs only bank which is unreported to date, one of the two Number 1 examples represents the only method of owning a note from this community. This Serial Number 1 $5, which is the finer of the known examples, has four even margins, nice centering, ideal inks and color, along with sharp pen signatures, and original surfaces. This is a great Texas rarity worthy of the finest of collections.
