Description

East Port, NY- Webster S. Robinson $1 Oct. 10, 1876
A rare and significant advertising note from New York's Suffolk County. Styled as a "Centennial Promissory Note," and featuring a vignette of the Philadelphia exposition on the face, the reverse features highlights from Mr. Robinson's general store, including the observation that "The recent reduction in the prices of our boots and shoes bring them within the reach of many who have been barefoot all their lives." For those who know the Suffolk County of today, a prosperous bedroom community to New York City and site of the Hamptons' resorts, the idea of a substantial population of shoeless Suffolk County residents seems utterly amazing. What a difference just 125 years makes. About Uncirculated, with just a tiny bit of fraying at the right margin.
