Description

Albany, NY - $5 1875 Fr. 401 The Union National Bank Ch. # 1123 PMG Very Fine 20.
A very rare Albany note that we last had the pleasure of offering in our 2000 FUN auction where was acquired by our consignor is presented once again in this lot. Operating at the lower end of State Street, just a few blocks from New York's Capital Building, the Union National was only in business from 1865 until the expiration of its charter in 1885. Just three notes are listed in the census - an Original Series $5 which has been off the market for so long its serial number remains unknown, an Original Series $10 in a PMG Fine 15 Net holder that we auctioned in 2015, and this 1875 $5. It is a very attractive and solid note with pleasing color and dark pen signatures including that of Billings P. Learned, who served as bank president from 1865 until his death in 1884.
