Description
Newly Reported Kent, Washington Small Size
Kent, WA - $5 1929 Ty. 1 The Kent National Bank Ch. #
12217 PMG Very Fine 20 EPQ.In our recent FUN auction, we were able to offer just the third reported note from this rare Washington State bank. That piece, in a PMG Very Fine 20 holder, fetched $7,200. Apparently, that realization helped bring another note out of the "proverbial weeds" and tonight we are pleased to offer the fourth reported example from this tough charter. As we stated in January, at the time this note was issued, Kent was a small farming community known as the "Lettuce Capital of the World." However, rapid growth after World War II has transformed this area into a sprawling Seattle suburb. This offering comes from Kent's second, and considerably rarer, note issuer that, although chartered in 1922, chose to issue small size only. This is an evenly circulated and original $5 that provides last January's disappointed underbidders with another opportunity to finally acquire this rare bank.
