55.A great Serial Number 1 Red Seal from this very scarce and always in demand Hancock County bank that was the only issuer in this resort town. This piece is one of just a dozen large size reported from this charter which are split equally between its Eden and Bar Harbor locations. While two other Number 1 large notes are reported from this charter, this $10 is the only one of that trio to have ever appeared at public sale. It is a pen signed beauty with wonderful color and plenty of natural paper wave. Its only flaw is a small, light stain at top center which is not at all distracting. This is a great note for either the Maine or Red Seal collector.
