Bangor, ME - $100 1902 Date Back Fr. 689 The First National Bank
Ch. # (N)112 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.When we auctioned this note over six years ago, we said that it was the sole 1902 Blue Seal known for the entire state of Maine. No Maine bank issued $100 Plain Backs and a mere three issued $100 Date Backs. Only about 2,000 pieces were printed, with one bank each in Biddeford, Portland, and Bangor electing to issue hundreds. Today, it is still the only Series 1902 $100 reported for all Maine banks. This pretty note, which displays bright white paper and clear signatures, fetched over $10,000 in our 2019 Central States auction and, considering its continued unique status, could approach that number again.
