Description

Serial Number 1 Tarpon Springs Plain Back

Serial Number 1 Tarpon Springs, FL - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 609 The First National Bank Ch. # (S)12274 PMG Very Fine 30.
A great Serial Number 1 example, this Plain Back comes from a very scarce Pinellas County bank that was open only from 1922 to 1933 and even by 1935 there was a paltry $515 outstanding. This is the only Serial Number 1 note in the census for this charter number. In fact, the National Currency Foundation census only reports 21 large size Serial Number 1s for the entire state. It is a bright, well embossed note with great color and the bold pen signatures of the assistant cashier and the vice president, leading to the belief that this was a presentation note made among the bank's officers when the first Nationals arrived.
