Very Rare $50 National Gold Bank Note

San Francisco, CA - $50 1870 Fr. 1160 The First National Gold Bank Ch. # 1741 PMG Fine 12.
Another fantastic note from this impressive collection we are offering this evening. It is one of only seven $50 National Gold Bank Notes listed in the National Currency Foundation census, six of which are from this San Francisco bank. However, with one of the overall seven reported $50 National Gold Bank Note survivors in multiple pieces and another likely off the market forever in the ANA museum, that leaves very few options for today's generation of collectors that have the desire, and the means, to acquire one of these very rare notes. As an example, the last $50 Gold Bank Note to be publicly offered was a repaired PMG Very Good 10 note that we auctioned for $192,000 in our 2023 FUN auction. Tonight's offering, which is crossing the auction block for the first time, is a pleasing, evenly circulated note with excellent color for the grade and a very distinct gold coin vignette on the back. PMG has mentioned tape repairs, but they are not at all distracting on this very rare Gold Bank Note that should certainly exceed the realization of the lesser grade piece that we auctioned two years ago.
