J. Whatman 1862 Watermarked Paper
T16 $50 1861 PF-17 Cr. 94 PMG Very Fine 20.This rare T16 $50 variety is printed on paper watermarked J. Whatman 1862 (on this note the water mark is upside down with 1862 appearing in an inverted position above Jefferson Davis' head.) Fricke believed this to be a rare variety with an estimated surviving population of only 21-50 examples in 2014. Although not listed in the 2005 Fricke condition census for this variety, it would have been near the top end of the listed notes. In 2005, Fricke estimated that a total of 700 notes of this variety were issued.
