Description

Fort McCulloch, Indian Territory - Wm. Quesenbury, Maj. & Q.M. $3 ND (ca. 1862) Burgett 8 PMG Very Fine 20.
This note was part of an issue made by Quesenbury, a Major and Quarter Master in the Confederate Army, to meet the needs of Confederate troops serving at Fort McCulloch, a fortification built on the Blue River in the southern part of the Choctaw Nation in the spring of 1862. The location controlled the approaches to Fort Gibson, Fort Smith, and Fort Washita as well as to Sherman and Brenham, TX. This variety is printed on plain buff colored paper and is undated. These notes were redeemable in Confederate treasury notes when presented in sums of $5, $10, or $20. The note has broad margins and has some stains that are not overly distracting. Unlike this note, most of the examples that are infrequently seen today are from the later May 1, 1862, dated series.
