Description

Weymouth, MA- Union Bank of Weymouth & Braintree $1 Oct. 28, 1862 G8a PMG Very Fine 25.
The bank was organized in 1832 and remained in business until 1864 when it was succeeded by the Union National Bank of Weymouth. The $1 design features a train vignette which in almost every detail was being used in the Confederacy for T40 $100 Treasury Notes at the same time this note was in circulation. Ceres sits at lower left and a small portrait of Washington is nestled in part of the bank title. A large red ONE protector completes the design. The kind of note that most collectors prefer - fully issued and repair-free with no glaring impairments. We last auctioned this note in our 2016 FUN Currency Signature Auction when it crossed the auction block for $1,880. It is the only example of this note of which we are aware and is one of only two notes of any kind known to us from this bank.
