Description

Rare Nogales, AZ Large Size

Nogales, AZ - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 628 The First National Bank Ch. # (P)6591 PMG Very Fine 20.
This is a very rare Arizona note that comes from a border town that was able to support two National Banks. It hails from the first of those two banks to open in town and was chartered under the name Sandoval National Bank in 1903. However, it used that name for just one year and, in 1904, its title was changed to the First National Bank, issuing large size notes with Territorial and State designations, as well as small size beginning in 1929. There are just four large size notes known with the First National Bank title, two territorials and two state issues, including this example which first appeared on the market in our May 1993 auction. It is a bright mid-grade note exhibiting just honest wear along with nice color and signatures.
