Description

Finest Graded T49 $100

T49 $100 1862 PF-2 Cr. 348 PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
The Type 49 $100 was part of the fifth series of notes authorized by the Act of October 13, 1862 that marked the beginning of the design standardization process initiated by Keatinge & Ball for all Confederate Treasury Notes. A total of 628,640 $100s were issued. This variety has no series indicated and is printed on paper watermarked CSA with a wavy border. While this type is by no means rare, this note's superlative condition sets it apart from its peers. An indication of its rarity when found in this condition is that, of the 226 examples registered in the PMG Population Report, only one other example is tied with this note for the top spot. We auctioned that note for $8,400 in our 2022 Long Beach Expo Currency Signature Auction and fully expect this spectacular note to test or best that price level tonight.
