POCs.A surprising number of proofs of several varieties of this base design were part of the ABNCo Archives holdings dispersed in 1990. That has created an opportunity for collectors to acquire a colored high denomination proof at a reasonable price. This pretty note features an unusual oval die with the bank's name flanked by oval portraits of Lafayette and Washington and an orange and white D - 500 - D protector. An overall orange tint completes the effect. This is the single nicest example we have sold.
