Description

Rhode Island May 1786 £2/40s-£1.10s/30s-£3/£3-£1/20s (2) Uncut Double Pane Sheet Very Fine.
An uncut double pane sheet composed of the four highest denominations of this issue is in this lot. Except for the £3 note, all denominations are stated in two different styles. The three signatures needed for circulation for each of these denominations are present, too. The £1/20s note had a printing of 12,000 and the other three denominations had a printing of only 10,000 each. The Newman reference recounts that 96% of this issue was burned by the state during the years of 1793-1803. This resulted in few survivors, especially so in uncut sheet form. There is a tiny hole at center and a small hole near the left edge, but neither of these interfere with the notes as they are in the center horizontal gutter. The right edge has a couple of tears, but overall, it is a nice uncut double pane sheet.
