Fr. 1382 Fractional Currency Shield, With Gray Background.
In most respects, a far nicer than normal Gray Shield, although there are a few problems that need to be mentioned. The hand signed Justice at upper right apparently loosened and was re-glued. Sloppy would be an understatement. Fairly large areas of the note are coated with heavy, dark brown glue stains. There is waterstaining at the lower left end of the shield that does not affect the printed shield itself or any of the notes. There are also two small tears at the top of the shield, neither one reaching any of the design elements. Save for the aforementioned Justice, and the always faded Second Issue 25¢ Back, the notes are unusually bright and vivid. The Justice note, which is the only meaningful problem, could be restored or replaced with little difficulty. After that, this would be a well above average Gray Shield. The frame is a heavy, dark wood; probably not contemporary, but apparently quite old.
