Description

Extremely Rare Fr. 126a - The Finest Known

Fr. 126a $20 1863 Legal Tender PMG Very Fine 20. An extraordinarily rare variety, with the single serial number and only the American Bank Note Company imprint at the bottom center. A scant ten examples of this number are known by the Track & Price census. No example grades higher than 20. PCGS has graded a single Fr. 126a - a VG 8 - and PMG has graded a single Fr. 126a - this note. The highest auction record for a Fr. 126a was for a raw 20, which sold for $4675 in 1998. This note, the finest yet graded and quite likely the finest known, carries the positive "Good Color," comment. One of the most underrated rarities in the entire Federal Currency field.
