Description

Marland/Ponca City, OK- Miller Brothers 101 Ranch Round Up Grounds 1924.
5 Bucks Burgett 2 Fine-Very Fine;
10 Bucks Burgett 3 Fine.
A pair of genuine examples as they have the "flowing" serial number digits that are depicted on pages 42-44 of Indian Territory and Oklahoma Obsolete Notes and Scrip by Maurice Burgett. Modern reproductions of these notes use a "block" font for the serial numbers. The Miller Brothers had a large ranch. They also had a Wild West Show that performed in various venues from 1908-39 with the last show taking place at the 1939 New York World's Fair. Joseph C. Miller, who was one of the Miller Brothers of the 101 Ranch and the head of their Wild West Show, was found dead in the 101 Ranch garage with his car running on October 21, 1927. These "bucks" have portraits/vignettes that remind one of the Chief and Bison large size paper money designs of the first quarter of the twentieth century. Both examples have edge wear and the "10 Bucks" has a penciled "130" on the face. (Total: 2 notes)
