Brandon, MS- Mississippi & Alabama Rail Road Company $5 Dec. 3, 1837 G8 Krause 10140 Fine;Bartlett, TX- $7.75 Property Tax Receipt Mar. 24, 1898 Very Fine.
The paper money needed to conduct commerce in the Republic was in short supply and notes like this $5 from the Mississippi & Alabama Rail Road Company were circulated in the Republic. One such issuer was R. and D.G. Mills who endorsed and circulated these out of state issues that came to be known as "Mills Money." This $5 has a 1917 endorsement on the back, perhaps marking the note's presentation as a gift. Also included is an 1898 Property Tax Receipt from Bartlett, TX. (Total: 2 items)
