Description

Salina, NY- Bank of Salina $2 18__ as G4 Proof PMG Choice About Unc 58.
The Bank of Salina was chartered in 1832 and remained in business until succeeded by the Third National Bank of Syracuse which was chartered on December 13, 1864, and began active operations in the building formerly occupied by the Bank of Salina. The $2 design features vignettes of Hebe watering an eagle at left and Archimedes lifting the globe with a lever at right. A small vignette of men with cattle is in the left end panel and another of a Native American in a canoe is at bottom center. The note is printed on India paper with six POCs in the signature lines. PMG mentions evidence of previous mounting which is not obvious. We are presently aware of two examples of this note.
