Description

Poughkeepsie, NY- Bank of Poughkeepsie $2 18__ G8 Proof PCGS Choice New 63.
The Bank of Poughkeepsie was incorporated on April 6, 1830, and remained in business until succeeded by the Poughkeepsie National Bank which was chartered on June 19, 1865. The $2 design features a farmer plowing with a two horse-plow. A small pillared building (perhaps the bank's building) is located at bottom center. The left end panel has a vignette of Ceres and a cherub wielding a hand sickle in a large 2 fashioned from grain and a cornucopia while the right end panel contains a large TWO. The note is printed on India paper with four POCs in the signature lines and is mounted on cardstock. The back has some mounting remnants and a scuff which affect nothing, as well as what appears to be a period annotation in pencil: van der Mylen 27 April 18 1842(?). Ex: Eric P. Newman Collection.
