Description

Clinton, LA- Clinton and Port Hudson Rail Road Company 50¢ Sep. 1, 1862 PCGS Banknote Fine 12 Details.
The railroad was chartered in 1833 and completed in 1841. The road was an important resource preparing Port Hudson for its siege in the summer of 1863 during which the railroad was, for all intents and purposes, destroyed. It was eventually absorbed by the Louisville, New Orleans and Texas Railway. The design incorporates no vignettes but has two somewhat decorative end panels, each containing 50 CENTS. This typeset note is printed on the back of what appears to be a shipping document, perhaps a form used by the railroad. PCGS Banknote mentions repaired edge and internal tears/splits.
