Description
Wapello, IA- City of Wapello $2 Aug. 31, 1857 Oakes 109-2 PMG Very Fine 30.The design of this more elusive City of Wapello deuce includes a river scene at left with a boat in the foreground and steam locomotives in the background, cattle being driven to grazing lands as a train races by on an overpass above them at right, and a Native American leaning on a mural entitled Enterprise at center. Large "2" protectors at either end complete the layout. Though we have auctioned a small assortment of notes of this design and denomination previously, we have not offered this exact piece prior to now. PMG comments on pinholes which do not detract from this example's wonderful eye appeal.
