Description

Kaskaskia, IL- Bank of Cairo at Kaskaskia $1 184_ G6 Proof PMG Uncirculated 62.
Organized in 1839 through the use of a previously unutilized 1816 charter, the Bank of Cairo operated for four short years before failing in 1843. Manufacturing, Ceres, and Commerce are seated at center as they gaze out to sea on this beautiful ace, and at right, a farmer rests from a busy day during the harvest. Cameo-like medallion heads flank the central vignette, and one is also located at far left. Printed on India paper mounted to cardstock, this Proof has four punch cancellations located in the signature lines. PMG comments on evidence of a previous mounting. This evidence is only visible on the back of the cardstock, not on the actual note.
