Description

Coeur D'Alene, ID (Territory)- Coeur D'Alene Water Supply Company $5 April 8, 1885 PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The Coeur D'Alene Water Supply Company sold water to miners who worked along its ditch and made its notes payable in water, a quite fascinating form of payment possibly unique to this firm. This beautiful piece displays Ceres holding a sickle and standing near a seated blacksmith with his hammers and anvil at left, and at right are miners working with coal. At upper center, a vignette of the Eads Bridge in St. Louis is present. This depiction is quite fitting, considering the St. Louis Bank Note Co., this note's printer, was located in relatively close proximity to the structure. Displaying even margins and printed on bright white, entirely original bond paper, this example presents an opportunity to acquire a truly scarce piece. Notes from Idaho Territory are always difficult to locate, and our current offering is an ideal candidate to represent the state in any Territorial or Obsolete collection.
