Description

Tallahassee, FL- State of Florida $100 Jan. 1, 1862 Cr. 10 PCGS Banknote Choice Unc 63.
A total of 1,220 $100s of this type were issued between 1862 and 1863. The notes from this emission, authorized initially by Chapter 1279 of the Laws of Florida, were intended to pay the war tax that had been levied on the state by Confederate authorities, but in 1863 were also issued for the relief of the families of the state's soldiers serving in the Civil War. The Hoyer & Ludwig design used pre-war designs including a view of Commerce, Agriculture, and Navigation seated at center and a slave harvesting cotton at lower left. PCGS Banknote mentions some paper toning which is not uncommon for this issue.
