Attractive Bank of Fernandina $5 with Stunning Red End Panels

Fernandina, FL- Bank of Fernandina $5 Feb. 1, 1860 G2a Benice 4 PMG Very Fine 30.
Chartered on January 15, 1859, under general incorporation laws, the Bank of Fernandina operated out of Fernandina until March 1862, when Union forces captured the city, forcing the institution to relocate to Starke, FL. Our current offering is a beautiful ABNCo production which showcases a busy harbor scene. In the foreground is a large steamer with a side wheel arriving at the city's harbor, while the background contains the city's coastal buildings. This marvelous vignette is complemented by charming red end panels which are especially stunning on our current offering. This note bears the genuine signatures of Geo(rge) S. Roux for cashier and A.H. Cole for president. This mid-grade example is certainly one of the nicest issued notes we have had the privilege of auctioning for the design and denomination. In October 2023, another PMG VF 30 certified representative of this type crossed our auction block and brought $1,440.
