Description

Southport, CT- Southport Bank $1 18__ as G2 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The Southport Bank was organized in 1851 when the Southport Branch of the Connecticut Bank of Bridgeport was spun off. It then remained in business until 1864 when it was succeeded by the Southport National Bank. The $1 design features a vignette of Liberty, Justice, and an unidentified third allegorical woman surrounding the Connecticut coat of arms flanked by portraits of George and Martha Washington. The note is printed on India paper with six POCs in the signature lines. There were four examples of this note, in the form of a single uncut sheet, in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. PMG indicates that the note has been previously mounted (in a style similar to that used by D.C Wismer, early obsolete note cataloger and researcher). This points to an estimated surviving population of between four and perhaps eight examples in Proof form.
