Selma, AL- Alabama & Tennessee River R.R. $3 June 1862 Gunther-Derby AO-412-$3a Rosene 290-6 PCGS Banknote Choice Fine 15.
The railroad which had been chartered in 1848, completed 135 miles of railroad line by 1862. The $3 design is printed in red and blue ink and features vignettes of blindfolded Justice standing at left, and a passenger train at top center. A very small steamship vignette is at bottom center. The note is printed on the backs of $1 notes originally intended for use by the defunct Real Estate Banking Company of South Alabama. Rare, with Gunther-Derby estimating fewer than six surviving examples of this note.
