Pittsburg, PA-Citizens Bank $5 Aug. Spurious 10,1859 S10 Good-Very Good;
Towanda, PA- Towanda Bank $10 1841 G8 Two Examples Very Good; Fine-Very Fine.
The counterfeit $5 on the Philadelphia is betrayed rather bad execution of the allegorical figures and has a few very minor margin nicks and edge roughness. The Bank of Pittsburgh counterfeit $10 is not particularly well executed, with muddy vignettes and a "U" in "PITTSBURGH" that is not well done. There is minor damage in the lower left corner. The Farmers and Mechanics Bank $10 engraved by Harrison, has an unusually intricate and detailed vignette of an early pump. There is a 3" edge tear that extends into the spoked wheel on the vignette and what appear to be adhesive residue stains on the back. The Citizens Bank was a spurious institution whose notes were passed to the unsuspecting as issues of the legitimate Citizens Bank of Pittsburgh. This note is wretchedly executed with muddy gray ovals trying (and failing) to mimic cameo-like medallion counters. The note has two clusters of rust spots but is otherwise without any repairs or any meaningful condition distractions. (Total: 6 notes)
