Description

Buffalo, NY- Thebaud Brothers 10¢ Tiffany Commission Scrip ND (ca. 1873-74) PMG About Uncirculated 55 Net.
The Thebaud Brothers provided steam cleaning and dyeing services from their location at 37 S. Division Street in Buffalo. They used this scrip in an effort to attract additional cash sales by offering a 5% discount on such purchases. They had branches in Rochester, NY, Cleveland, and Detroit as well as in Lockport, NY. The face features a portrait of a little girl holding a book on a table while the back has text detailing information about the company, its services, and rules regarding redemption of the scrip (in this case the scrip would only be received until July 1, 1874). Apparently the firm found the need to add an additional red diagonal notice on the back of the note that only one scrip note would be allowed per purchase. PMG mentions tape on the face corners and a stain on the back right margin. We are unaware of other examples at present.
