Description

New York, NY- Gould's New Dining Rooms 25¢ July 18, 1862 Harris H543 PMG Very Fine 25.
The restaurant, whose specialties were steaks and green turtle soup, was located at 35 Nassau Street in New York from at least 1862 until 1876. The restaurant occasionally displayed menu items "on the hoof" (February 18, 1876- TO THE PUBLIC- THE PREMIUM STEERS ON EXHIBITION this morning will be served next week at GOULD'S Dining Rooms 33 and 35 Nassau st. New York). The note was issued during the Civil War and features a large red 25 protector flanked by an end panel containing a vignette of a sailing vessel at left and a vignette of a dog and safe symbolizing Fidelity at lower right. PMG mentions minor repairs and small stains that have minimal, if any, impact on this rare note's desirability.
