Description

North Carolina April 2, 1776 $1/8 Heron PMG Very Fine 20 Net.
A very challenging fractional denomination example from this intriguing April 2, 1776 issue. Blessed with a variety of interesting vignettes, many of which are animals, the present example shows a heron with its long neck leaning down to tend to her offspring. PMG mentions splits. The Newman note was a PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25 that brought $1,410 in 2015 and then again for $1,680 in 2020 as part of the Mike Coltrane collection. The PMG Population Report lists three examples of this variety, all graded VF 25/30.
