Description

T5 $100 1861 PF-1 Cr. 5 PMG Very Fine 30, 6 POCs.
This design, along with a companion $50 (T6), was ordered by the Confederate Department of Treasury in the wake of Federal raids on the American and National Bank Note Companies in New York that resulted in the termination of any further shipments from those sources. Operating under the name of the Southern Bank Note Company, the New Orleans office of ABNCo tried to do things it was not equipped to do, namely produce new designs of bank notes in high quantities. The results were predictable, with design, production, and delivery times moving at glacial speeds. Only 5,798 of this note were issued before production ceased when New Orleans fell to a Union naval task force at the end of April, 1862. This example was redeemed as evidenced by the six POCs in the signature lines and the upper margin. PMG also mentions pinholes.
