Description

Specimens of Military Yen Currency Area B. According to Fred Schwan in the recently published comprehensive catalog of Military Payment Certificates, these "B" Series Yen were intended for use in occupied Japan. The "A" notes were to be used in Korea. The "A" notes were withdrawn from Korea after only a few days, but the "B" notes circulated in occupied Japan for awhile, until they were replaced in a changeover to "A" series notes. This set consists of seven notes: 10 Sen, 50 Sen, 1 Yen, 5 Yen, 10 Yen, 20 Yen and 100 Yen. Each of the five notes is a well centered, perfect uncirculated piece but for mounting remnants on the back where the notes were removed from a booklet. Each of the seven notes is hole-punched "SPECIMEN" across the bottom. The cardboard cover of the booklet, which reads, "Specimens of Military Yen Currency Area B," is included in the lot.
