Description

Extremely Rare Type Note Featuring Serial Number 3

Low Serial Number 3 British West Africa West African Currency Board 20 Shillings 31.3.1916 Pick 5a PMG About Uncirculated 55.
British West Africa's first paper currency notes were issued in 1916, and notes with that date are exceedingly rare today. This first date is the only variety of this type to feature a completely uniface back. Additionally, this example is seen with the first prefix and third serial number, and it is part of an impressive pair along with a similar 10 Shillings also offered in auction today. At the time of writing, PMG has graded a mere two examples of this date. A British Commonwealth rarity that has been eluding passionate collectors for decades. Mounting remnants and some toning are mentioned for accuracy. Exceedingly rare and a complement to the previous lot.
