Fr. 61a $5 1862 Legal Tender PMG Gem Uncirculated 65
EPQ.A picture perfect example, this early $5 Legal Tender Note is further enhanced by low three-digit serial number 178. The paper used for this design was thin, brittle, and tended to tone. This particular example has dodged all of those perils, and remains quite essentially as it was the day it was pulled from the press. PMG has graded just eight pieces a single point finer than this beautiful note. In our 2023 FUN Auction, we sold another PMG Gem 65 EPQ example, albeit with low number 49, for $13,200.
