Double Signature $10 1815 Treasury Note Remainder

TN-14a Kagin TN-14a(1) Hessler X83C $10 Act of February 24, 1815 Treasury Note Clarke-Fox Double Signature Remainder PMG Very Fine 25 Net.
A nice mid-grade plate letter E example, this note has the double signatures of Samuel Clarke and Edward Fox. As a remainder, this note lacks its third signature and a serial number. Clarke was a naval officer attached to the Philadelphia Custom House. Fox had taken up arms against the British in Ireland before arriving in America. In 1780, he was auditor-general of accounts between Congress and the state of Pennsylvania. Fox would go one to be the first cashier of the Bank of Pennsylvania in 1793. The note in this lot is hammer cut cancelled. It also has tape repairs on the back. The great majority of the repairs were accomplished with stamp hinge tape as the cut cancel was sealed, along with a small tear at top center, and an approximate half inch tear at bottom center. Our latest PMG VF 25 offering occurred last January. That example had stains and saw a winning bid of $9,000. Therefore, our estimate may prove to be conservative when the gavel falls.
