Our First Offering of an Amazing Defacing Roller Imprint Error
Defacing Roller Imprint Error Fr. 1921-C* $1 1995 Federal
Reserve Star Note. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.The first time that we have offered an example of this error type that was described by Arthur Friedberg in his article in the February 15, 2020 Coin World. Included with the lot is a photocopy of a letter on Executive Currency letterhead signed by error reference writer and researcher, Frederick J. Bart. As taken from the letter, in late summer of 2019 five of these defacing roller imprint errors surfaced. With the help of the Treasury Department and subsequent confirmation by Paper Money Guarantee, it was determined that those five defacing roller imprint errors were hand applied by a press operator. The amazing imprint consists of a large serpentine configuration in indelible red ink running from the bottom to the top edge. Also, the red ink has bled through to the back. The fact that this cancellation procedure was applied to star notes makes this all the more exciting. PMG graded the five stars, with the example in this lot earning the highest grade of 65 EPQ. Two of the four notes graded 64 EPQ, and the two other pieces graded 63 EPQ. This quintet was intended to be destroyed, but they were able to slip into circulation for the paper money community to enjoy. The letter is part of the item count for this lot. (Total: 2 items)
