Description

One of Only a Dozen Stars Known

Fr. 1605* $1 1928E Silver Certificate Star. PMG Very Fine 25.
One of only 12 stars correctly recorded by Track & Price for Fr. 1605*, and at this low population number, Series 1928E is slightly rarer than Series 1928C for the fewest stars known amongst $1 Silvers. We originally auctioned this star note in January 2003 as part of the Bob Steele Collection. Bob had spent many years searching for a nice circulated example before purchasing this evenly circulated star from Mid-American Currency in 1995. The note has lived up to its original grade and then some as it has since earned a comment free PMG grade of Very Fine 25. Also, this example last traded hands in 2020 to the tune of $7,800. We see no reason why this key star should not exceed that amount when the gavel falls.
