Description

Ex: Grinnell Atlanta Fr. 823 $20 FRBN

Fr. 823 $20 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PMG Choice About Unc 58.
A $20 Atlanta FRBN with serial number F42153A, this was lot number 4674 in Part VI of the Albert A. Grinnell auction that was held on June 29, 1946. Luckily, the numeric part of the serial number is listed in the Barney Bluestone description. We see embossing of the upper right serial number on the back of this fully margined example that also sports excellent color. PMG has graded no other equal and only a single piece higher, a 64, out of the 29 that they have examined. A closer look at every Fr. 823 in the PMG Population Report reveals that they have not bestowed the EPQ grade modifier upon a single example. Further scrutiny of the Track & Price census expands upon our PMG findings. T&P has enumerated a total of 52 Fr. 823 notes with none equal and just one third party graded note higher, the previously mentioned 64. This 64 note turns out to be the F1A note with minor restoration. Therefore, our current offering is the highest third party comment free example. Our consignor acquired this note for $10,575 out of our April 2013 CSNS auction. Due to the rarity, quality, and history of this note, that figure should be surpassed tonight.
