One of Four Fr. 1551 Specimens Graded by PMG
Specimen Fr. 1551s $100 1966A Legal Tender Note PMG Choice
Uncirculated 64 EPQ.This charismatic design for paper money collectors is especially so as a Specimen. The word "Specimen" is printed vertically twice on the front and twice on the back in red ink. PMG has graded a mere four Specimens for Fr. 1551 and the example in this lot is the sole finest of that quartet. We also noticed that for Fr. 1550, the other non-star Friedberg number of this design, PMG has graded nine Specimen notes, but only a single piece achieved a grade equal to or higher than the note in this lot, a 66 EPQ example. Our most recent experience with either a Fr. 1550 or a Fr. 1551 Specimen was a Fr. 1550 grading PMG 63 that realized $6,900 in January 2022. Our current Fr. 1551 Specimen offering is rarer than Fr. 1550 Specimens, plus it is a grade point higher with EPQ and therefore should command considerably more when the auctioneer strikes the hammer.
