Description

One of a Meager Three Fr. 855b $5 Philadelphia FRN Star Documented

Fr. 855b* $5 1914 Federal Reserve Star Note PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
This rare Philadelphia star FRN has been stuck on the same three documented serial numbers as far back as 1999 as documented in The Complete Catalog of United States Large Size Notes third edition by Douglas D. Murray. We originally auctioned this star with serial number C944835 in May 1999, and it is just as beautiful today, with dark inks and evident paper originality. The example in this lot is also the last Fr. 855b* to appear at auction. At the time, it was in a PCGS 63PPQ holder and realized $7,200 in our September 2023 auction. Since then, this star has recently crossed over into a PMG 64 EPQ holder making it an even more desirable note.
