Description

Sharply Printed and Well Margined 1896 $5 Silver Certificate

Fr. 268 $5 1896 Silver Certificate PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
Broad margins surround the classic design on this $5 Educational. Although a $10 was designed and exists in Specimen form, it was never released, making this the highest denomination of the three note series. Well-printed with sharp detail and exceptional color, this example has the first signature combination of the three $5 Eds. As it has the highest population count of the three Friedberg numbers for the design, it is usually the number chosen for a type set. While certainly not rare in the real sense, this note becomes a rarity at the assigned grade level and it will undoubtedly be a popular item tonight. Recently, a PCGS Banknote Gem Unc 66 PPQ example sold for $26,400 at auction.
