Description

Extremely Rare Fr. 330 $50 - One of Seven Known

Fr. 330 $50 1891 Silver Certificate PMG Choice Fine 15.
This is the first type for $50 1891 Silver Certificates and a significant rarity. The face layout differs from the 1880, but Edward Everett remains as the right-side portrait alongside a small red treasury seal. The green back is open style like other denominations in the 1891 series. There are only seven recorded examples in Track & Price with one of those held in the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank collection. Of those remaining six pieces, this is the only example that has been publicly offered in the past eight years. Honest wear is noted, but the face is quite clean. A minor repair has been mentioned by PMG but that is just a sealed edge tear at the upper right, which is not at all distracting. This is a more than acceptable example of a key Silver Certificate type that is seldom offered.
