Very Choice New PCGS 64PPQ Serial Number One New York District $10 Federal Reserve Bank Note

Fr. 810 $10 Serial Number One 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ.
Serial number one $10 Federal Reserve Bank Notes are only reported from the New York and Atlanta districts. Both are reported as being Uncirculated. This New York note has been graded 64PPQ by PCGS and we believe the Atlanta note remains ungraded. The Atlanta note was the Grinnell piece resold by Abe Kosoff in 1956. It appeared twice at public auction in 1987, apparently as a no sale on both occasions as no price has been recorded. This New York note can be traced to the James Wade collection, with no other information available to us. Friedberg 810 is a rare number in its own right, with only 32 examples appearing in the census. All of the high grade notes, a total of five, are single-digit pieces. The serial number 2 note in a PCGS 65PPQ holder auctioned for $51,750 at the pinnacle of the market and has since re-auctioned for considerably less. This serial number one note is an entirely different animal. Had this auctioned in 2008, we would have expected a price well into six figures. Even in today's market, this note could easily edge into six figures.
