Fr. 64 $5 1869 Legal Tender PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The ever so popular Rainbow Woodchopper featured in this lot is a simply spectacular example. The blazing blue and green paper, vivid red serials, and light red seal truly define why this Legal Tender earned its nickname. This pretty note was last on the market in our 2005 FUN auction where, in those pre-third party grading days, we called it a full Gem. Our initial assessment has withstood the test of time as PMG has also assigned a full Gem grade to this attractive $5 Legal. The last time we offered an example graded at this level was a PCGS Banknote 65 PPQ note that brought $8,100 in our recent Central States auction.
